Mother’s Day
After the Rain
Martine Callebaut
I graduated from the ” Institut Supérieur d’Architecture St Luc ” in Brussels, Belgium, with a degree in Interior Architecture. I loved completing my juried designs with watercolor renderings, and, as a hobby, have been painting since then. Windows and beaten-up shutters attracted me while on vacation visiting family and friends in the Southern part of France. They represented a confined life, structured, and carefully controlled. I could imagine sounds, murmurs, conversations, and laughs behind the openings of the house. In opposition to my windows, I became attracted to wild animals. Generating my dream of an escape, the power of nature invaded my soul with peacefulness and total freedom.
Nature also became an important part of my work: fruits, vegetables, flowers and mostly expressions of life. I am very fortunate to live in beautiful Marin County, California, where I participated at several solo shows, Marin Open Studios, gallery exhibits, and at the famous yearly Marin County Fair. where my paintings won several awards. Last year, I became part of the ” 537 Magnolias “, a group of gifted and passionate watercolorists directed by the very talented and known Cara Brown. I am proud to be part of that group. We share our work and paint together every week. Their enthusiasm stimulates and improves my artistic skills day by day.
